You've got your positive test, there's a little one on the way! But now there's the matter of 9 long months of pregnancy. Many women wonder: 'Will pregnancy change my hair?' The short answer is yes! But not to worry, most changes aren’t permanent. If you’re worried about your hair throughout your pregnancy journey, we’ve compiled a list of what you can expect when you’re expecting and our best hair care tips during pregnancy.
First, what on earth is causing all these pesky changes? You probably know the answer. Hormonal surges throughout pregnancy are at an absolute high, with oestrogen being the main culprit. This can cause all manner of things, from rapidly growing locks to dry limp hair – it can be hard to predict what’s going to happen next. Every mom-to-be is as unique as her hair! If you need to blow dry, keep the setting on a lower heat. It may take a few minutes longer, but your parched hair will thank you for it!
Brittle hair goes hand in hand with dry hair. If your pregnancy hair is dry or recently bleached, it’s usually more prone to breakage. In this situation, wash your hair gently and again, don’t forget to condition! Use wide-tooth combs to detangle your hair rather than a brush. Brushes are notorious for pulling and snapping your delicate hair strands. Consider wearing your hair down and avoid tight ponytails or up dos, as these can promote further breakage.
If your problem is oily hair, it can be hard to banish oil without depriving your hair of moisture. Don’t be tempted to wash your hair every day, instead use exfoliating shampoos and moisture-retention conditioners. This will help get oil under control without stripping your hair of its precious moisture. Avoid products containing silicone, oils or lanolin - which will weigh oily hair down - and use a clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of any product build-up.

Many women wait until the 12-week mark to dye their hair, when the risk of harming the baby is much lower.
