Choose Your Black Shade
Three shades. One perfect match. Here's how to find yours.
Jet Black (#1)
Pure, high-shine black with no warm or cool undertones. If you want a bold, dramatic look - or you need to match very dark natural hair - Jet Black is your shade.
Natural Black (#1B)
The most popular black shade in the range, and for good reason. It's slightly softer than Jet Black, with subtle warm undertones that give a more natural, lived-in finish. If you're torn between the two, this is usually the one.
Silver Black Ombré
Dark black roots that melt into a cool silver-grey at the ends. A brilliant way to add dimension and contrast without lightening your base colour or reaching for the bleach.
Not sure which shade is closest to yours? Our free colour matching service takes the guesswork out of it - just get in touch and our team will help you find your perfect match.
Why Tape-In Extensions?
When it comes to permanent hair extension methods, tape-ins are one of the most popular choices - and once you know why, it's easy to see why so many people love them.
- Less damaging than many other methods - the adhesive lies flat against your hair with no heat, no pressure and no pulling
- More discreet than most alternatives - the bonds sit close to the scalp and blend naturally into your hair
- Faster to fit - a full head of tape extensions can be applied in under two hours
- Flat, lightweight bonds that move naturally and feel comfortable day-to-day
- Perfect for hair-down styles and loose, low updos
One thing to be aware of: tape-in extensions aren't ideal for very high ponytails or tightly scraped-back styles, as the bonds can become visible. If you love a pulled-back look day-to-day, nano bonds or micro rings might be a better fit for your lifestyle.
All tape-in extensions must be fitted and removed by a qualified hair extensionist. This isn't a DIY method - getting them applied properly is what makes them both discreet and less damaging.
100% Remy Human Hair
All Cliphair black tape extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair. What does that mean? Every single cuticle runs in the same direction - from root to tip - which is what gives the hair its smooth, shiny, tangle-free finish. It's the reason our extensions blend so naturally with your own hair.
Because it's genuine human hair, you can treat it just like your own - wash it, blow-dry it, straighten it, curl it. Your black extensions will behave exactly as you'd expect natural hair to.
We offer two quality grades of black tape extensions:
- AAA Grade (Classic Tape-Ins) - single drawn, 100% Remy human hair. Brilliant quality for everyday wear at an accessible price.
- AAAAA Remy Royale - double drawn for maximum thickness from root to tip. The same length all the way through, for a fuller, more luxurious finish and longer wear.
With 17 years of experience in the hair extension industry, we know exactly where our hair comes from. All hair is ethically sourced and voluntarily donated - so you can feel good about what you're wearing.
How Many Tape Extensions Do You Need?
Getting the quantity right is key - too few and the result won't look as seamless as it could. Here's a simple guide based on your goal.
Classic Tape-Ins (100g per pack, 40 pieces)
- Volume only, no added length: 1 pack (100g)
- Full head transformation: 2 packs (200g)
- Adding 2-3 or more inches of length: 2 packs minimum
Remy Royale Tape-Ins (50g per pack, 20 pieces)
- Volume only, no added length: 2 packs (100g)
- Full head transformation: 3-4 packs (150-200g)
- Adding 2-3 or more inches of length: 3-4 packs minimum
The key difference to remember: Classic packs contain 40 wefts (100g), while Remy Royale packs contain 20 wefts (50g). So if you're going for Remy Royale, you'll need more packs to achieve the same coverage - but you'll get a thicker, more luxurious result.

How Long Do Tape-In Extensions Last?
With the right care and regular maintenance appointments, here's what you can expect:
- Classic Tape-Ins: 3-6 months
- Remy Royale Tape-Ins: 6-12 months
To keep your extensions looking their best throughout that time, your extensionist will need to remove and refit them with fresh adhesive tape tabs every 6-8 weeks. This is standard maintenance - skipping it can cause the bonds to loosen, so it's worth keeping on top of.
Good news if you're a fan of black and dark shades: darker hair tends to hold up particularly well over time. Black extensions require less chemical processing than lighter colours, which means less chance of the hair becoming dry or brittle - and a better result for longer.
Caring for Your Black Tape Extensions
A few simple habits from day one will make a real difference to how long your extensions stay looking great.
- Use a sulphate-free, alcohol-free shampoo - sulphates dry out the hair and can break down the tape adhesive faster than you'd like
- Avoid applying conditioner or oily products directly to the bonds - focus conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends only
- Always brush gently from the ends upward, working your way toward the roots
- Avoid chlorine and salt water where you can - both can affect the quality and lifespan of your tape extensions. If you're swimming, cover your hair or rinse it thoroughly straight after
- Always use a heat protection spray before straightening, curling or blow-drying
Remember, when it's time for maintenance, your extensionist will remove and refit your wefts with fresh adhesive tape - this should always be done professionally, not at home.

New to Tape-In Extensions?
If you're new to hair extensions, here's what you need to know before you buy. Tape-in extensions are a semi-permanent method, which means they're fitted by a qualified hair extensionist and worn continuously for 6-8 weeks between maintenance appointments. They're not applied at home - getting them professionally fitted is what makes them look natural and last well. Before you book in with your extensionist, it's worth getting a few things sorted:
- Decide on your shade - our free colour matching service is free and takes just a few minutes
- Think about your goal - are you adding length, volume, or both? This affects how many packs you'll need (see our quantity guide above)
- Consider your lifestyle - do you swim regularly? Wear your hair up a lot? These things are worth factoring in when choosing your method
Our hair extension buying guide is a brilliant starting point if you want to understand all your options before committing - it covers everything from method comparisons to aftercare basics.
Tape-In vs. Clip-In Extensions - Which Is Right for You?
Both tape-ins and clip-ins are available in the same beautiful black shades - the difference is how and when you wear them.
Tape-in extensions are semi-permanent. They're fitted by a professional and worn continuously day-to-day for 6-8 weeks at a time. If you want a long-term solution you don't have to think about every morning, tape-ins are the answer.
Clip-in extensions are temporary. You apply and remove them yourself at home, in just a few minutes. They're brilliant for special occasions, experimenting with length and volume, or if you're not ready to commit to a semi-permanent method just yet.
If you want the flexibility of going longer or fuller without the commitment, our black clip-in hair extensions are a great place to start. Or if you want something even simpler, our black one-piece hair extensions clip in with a single weft for a quick, fuss-free boost.
