As London Fashion Week comes to an end today, we’re left to mull over the key trends for next season, but as you already know, we’ve been keeping our eyes on THE HAIR! Get into the best and most noteworthy hairstyles and hair trends out of London Fashion Week AW20.
This season, London Fashion Week gave us a range of bold statements, from giant wigs at Matty Bovan, to Harley Quinn inspired clip ins at Ashley Williams. With a range of shapes and textures of hair across the runways, we also saw minimal styles including the laidback cornrows at Temperley London.
Keep reading to see all of our favourite London Fashion Week hair trends and hairstyles.
1. Clip ins and Hair Clips at Ashley Williams
The hair clip trend has been popular all through 2019, and for next season, we are set to see the worded hair accessories again thanks to Ashley Williams. The designer sent models out with hair decorated in words and rhinestones, however the difference next season is the added Harley Quinn clip ins.
Alex Brownsell, the lead hairstylist added colourful extensions that were attached to models' hair along with the iconic rhinestone hair clips. It appears the extensions were sewn on to the hair clips, and the hair came in different colours, from platinum blonde, to black and the season's key colour, electric blue.
2. The 60s at Ashish
Ashish took homage from the 60s, with models in exaggerated and edgy hairstyles, from beehives and elevated updos to mop tops and long, flowing, voluminous bombshell hairstyles.
Taking inspiration from the 60’s movie Sweet Charity, we saw a lot of exaggerated looks, which involved braided updos, with plenty of colourful extensions. Our favourite accessories from this catwalk though, have to be the colourful braided headbands, and the giant bowtie placed at the crown behind a elegant but dramatic quiff.
3. Street Chic at David Koma
This hairstyle is perfect if you’ve opted for killer make-up or if you want to show off your facial features. It’s an easy style that can be recreated in minutes and can be worn to any event.
4. Low Ponys and Side Parts at Emilia Wickstead –
Just like the looks at David Koma, Muller avoided adding any products to the bottom hair for a natural finish “we didn’t put any product on the bottom part of the hair because we wanted to keep it soft and easy," Muller told press. For next season, we can expect to see simple, but effective hairstyles.
5. Wet and Pulled Back at Charlotte Knowles
Pulled back wet look was the style of choice at Charlotte Knowles AW20. While strong and masculine, the hairstyle had a touch of femininity with a strand of hair swept and slicked at the front of the head.
The finished look was a strong and tough but still charming style that draws attention to the face. The slicked-back looks that were glossy but dramatic in their simplicity. For AW20, simplicity is a key theme in hairstyles.
6. Big Wigs, Fringes and Bold Eyes at Matty Bovan
For Autumn/ Winter 2020, Matty Bovan sent models to the catwalk in giant wigs, created and styled by hair stylist Syd Hayes. The looks were bold; however, the most practical looks were the fringes which added a dramatic effect.
The models were also dressed in very bold eyes and this complemented the whole look. So, if you’re going for a fringed look next season, be sure to pair it with bold, colourful eyes.
7. Sleek and Sculpted at 16Arlington
8. Whimsical Hair at Simone Rocha
Simone Rocha's collection was showcased by models styled in mostly natural curly hair, along with tight figure eight plaits at the front of the hair. The result is a romantic, whimsical look that take inspiration from mermaids and the sea. Hair stylist Gary Gill plaited wove the plaits with bones to accesorise.
Following the theme of the sea, Rocha also used alice bands decorated in pearls and crystals.
9. Minimal Cornrows at Temperley London
Stylist Britt Dion styled the models at Temperley London Fall 2020 catwalk show. Across the whole collection, there were three main looks in total: braids, bouncy bobs and flat barrel curls. Our favourite was the laidback cornrows where the model’s baby hair was sleeked into loops and curls.
All in all, the London Fashion Week trends for AW20 saw wet-look slicked-back hairstyles dominate, typically styled in side parts or ponytails. Similar styles were also spotted at Molly Goddard, Erdem, Christopher Kane and JW Anderson.
