A tape weft is one wide weft with tape along the top, cut to each section as it is fitted, so the row follows your parting instead of running across it. Fewer pieces to fit, less bulk at the root than fixed tabs allow, and a quicker fitting than tape-ins.

Why being cut matters

Every head is a different size, and every section on it is a different width. Your stylist cuts each row to the section in front of them, so the hair starts and stops exactly where it should, right down to the narrower sections around your parting and hairline. That is what keeps the weight even and the line flat when your hair is up.
In the salon

This is fitted by a stylist, not at home, and most who fit tape-ins will be familiar with the method. The tape is double-sided and already on the weft, so there is nothing to prepare. They cut it to your section, peel the backing and press it to your hair. Nothing is heated, sewn or braided in, and a full row goes on in one piece rather than several.

As your own hair grows the rows sit further from the root, so most people go back every four to six weeks. Your stylist takes the wefts out with a professional solvent, cleans the hair, applies fresh tape and fits them again higher up. The tape is what gets replaced. The hair goes back in.

Tape wefts or tape-ins?

Both use tape and both are fitted by a stylist. The difference is the shape.

Tape-ins come pre-cut, so they go exactly where a small piece is wanted. If you are adding thickness in a few places, they are the more precise tool. Tape wefts are cut to size, so they cover more with fewer pieces and fewer joins. If you want length and fullness across the back, this is the one.

Fifteen shades, from Jet Black (#1) through to Ice Blonde and Barbie Blonde (#16/60), taking in Oak Brondie, BlondeMe (#60/SS) and Iced Cappuccino (#14/22). Same shade numbers as our tape-ins, so if you already know yours, you already know this one.
