Last week, the Cliphair girl gang gathered for a truly special event: a bespoke natural perfume and scent creation workshop hosted by yours truly at the serene Yougi studio in Shoreditch, London. It was an afternoon dedicated to creativity, connection, and the art of crafting a signature scent, a perfect blend of style and self-expression ahead of the holiday season.

    The Yougi Experience

Upon arrival, our community was warmly welcomed into Yougi's inviting studio, a tranquil space that offered a welcome respite from the city. Every girl looked gorgeous, showcasing their own unique clip in hair extensions from our collection which we had personally colour-matched and gifted to them. Greeted with bottomless prosecco and a Pinterest-worthy spread, we were more than ready to begin.

A table with bottles of essential oils

Our expert Yougi hosts Eilidh and Peter guided us through an immersive 90-minute session designed to awaken our senses and explore the world of natural perfumery using ethically sourced essential oils and absolutes.

    The Process of Perfume Making

The workshop was a hands-on experience that demystified the art of perfume creation and make it a fun, simple and mindful activity for all. Here's a breakdown of the fascinating process we followed:

Introduction to Aromatherapy and Scent Families

The session began with an introduction to the power of scent and how different essential oils can affect mood and wellbeing. We learned about the various fragrance families and explored a library of over 30 different 100% natural essential oils.

    Understanding Perfume Notes

A key part of the process was learning about the structure of a fragrance, which is composed of different "notes" that unfold over time:

    • Top notes: These are the initial scents you smell, typically light and fresh (like bergamot or citrus), which evaporate quickly.
    • Middle notes: These emerge as the top notes fade and form the main body of the perfume, often floral or herbal (like lavender or rose).
    • Base notes: These are rich, deep, and long-lasting scents (such as sandalwood or cedarwood) that provide the fragrance's foundation and staying power.

    Blending and Creation

With expert guidance, it was time to get creative. We were shown the essential techniques for blending oils, including technical details and measurements, to ensure a balanced and harmonious fragrance. Each participant carefully selected their chosen essential oils, experimenting with combinations to craft a scent that was uniquely their own and told their personal "scent story".

    Bottling and Naming

Once our perfect blend was achieved, we transferred our bespoke creations into a 15ml glass rollerball or dropper bottle to take home. Naming our signature scents added a final personal touch to an unforgettable afternoon.

Gifted and Gorgeous: Cliphair Goodie Bags

The creativity didn't end with the perfume! To top off the event, each girl was gifted a gorgeous Cliphair goodie bag to help them care for their locks in style. The bags were filled with our fave haircare essentials, including our practical hair extension Hanger and Carrier to keep extensions organised and protected, along with our nourishing Deep Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner to ensure healthy, beautiful hair.

    Conclusion:

The event was a wonderful opportunity for our community to connect, share a creative experience, and leave with a unique, handcrafted perfume. We're already looking forward to the next Cliphair gathering!
