Here at ClipHair we’re not the sportiest folk at the best of times, particularly because we like our carefully-styled locks to remain as gorgeous as possible throughout the day, and anything more than a light stroll doesn’t bode well for barrel curls. If, however, it is in the name of looking fabulous that we have to turn our attention towards the sporty look, then we’re all for it! We’re following in the footsteps of our favourite fashionistas and plunging headfirst into the sports-luxe movement, and loving every second of it. Here are our favourite inspirational looks to get you started.

Make like the style-savvy folks at Marc Jacobs and Prada, and slip yourself into a stretchy headband! No longer reserved for helping you remove your make-up, these cheap and cheerful accessories have been a catwalk necessity and a huge hit with all of our fave fashion bunnies, successfully allowing us to sample the look at home. Whether you want to keep it simple with a plain black number, or jazz yourself up with something a little more edgy, you can’t go wrong with this look. Team with sleek, straight locks or a high pony to nail this one.
    Tomboy Fever

Hooray for headwear – we love a good hair accessory and the sports-luxe movement is all about transforming those forgotten practical purchases into must-have accessories. We can’t get enough of the tomboy backwards-cap look, the perfect use for all of those hats you bought in a daze of post-Wimbledon motivation three years ago. The great thing about this look is that it suits any hairstyle – have it straight and neat, glamorously curled, or rock the fresh-outta-bed look… it all works. For extra style points, try plaiting a few small sections near the front of a messy down-do.
    Perfect Plaits

Channelling your inner sporty diva doesn’t mean saying goodbye to all hints of glamour, and if you need proof then look no further than your favourite athletes, who have to combine practicality with attractiveness on a daily basis! We absolutely love this plaited ponytail, which does a great job of keeping your hair off of your face, whilst also adding a little bit of interest to an otherwise plain ponytail. This look works fantastically with a ponytail of any height, and for super-duper style credit, pop one of those coveted stretchy headbands over the top. Two looks in one? We’re in!
    Wimbledon Woes

Confession time! We only watch Wimbledon to catch a glimpse of the celebs working their best frocks and flicking gorgeous locks, and the tennis-playing really just gets in our way. If you are of the racket, however, then you may well have a visor knocking about somewhere in your gym bag – and we strongly advise that you dig it out! Uber trendy and oh-so daring, this look screams sports-luxe and is currently a staple catwalk item. We absolutely love the incorporation of clear plastic – another huge 2014 trend.
    Headband-Happy

If the stretchy headband simply isn’t your thing, and you’re looking for something a little more wearable, then why not opt for a simple black headband instead? There are plenty of options – from thin elasticated ones to shiny alice bands, a discreet and girly take on the sporty look. We think that this example looks ace – team yours with a similar messy bun or high pony for the perfect athletic look at home.
The sports-luxe look is all about simple up-dos and athletic accessories fusing together to create something a bit different and seriously cool. Head on down to your nearest sports shop and see what sporty accessories you can pick up, and simply team with natural, under-styled locks. Sensible and sassy, a trend we can definitely buy into!
