Met Gala 2024: 10 of This Year’s Best Hair Looks

Reading Time: 5 Minutes

You are cordially invited to Cliphair’s favourite hair looks of the Met Gala 2024! This year’s dress code is “The Garden of Time,” a concept inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. Florals for spring? Groundbreaking…but celebs turned up in much more than just flowers, flaunting gothic, fairytale ballgowns, fantastical veils, capes and lavish hair accessories as far as the eye could see. However, some of the hair looks without major head pieces were not only the most stylish, but some of the wildest we’ve ever seen!

Here’s our top 10 favourite hair looks from the night:

    Sabrina Carpenter

Everyone’s favourite Gen Z ‘IT’ girl Sabrina had her belle of the ball moment in Oscar de la Renta last night in a dramatic two-tone black velvet bodice ball gown with a ruffled sky-blue skirt. She styled her signature blonde hair and curtain bangs in loose waves, parting the bangs to the side for a retro look. Fake tan-free and opting for minimal makeup, her skin complimented her new icy blonde tresses in a stunning, theatrical way. Check out how to get Sabrinas iconic fringe in our dedicated blog here.

    Gigi Hadid

Classic and feminine, Gigi has kept her styling fairly simple since debuting her bob back in March of this year. The model wore her hair in bouncy, romantic curls, with her bright blonde strands curled away from her face and swept over into a 1920s-style deep side part, adding even more proof that the side part is back. Her look is said to be inspired by none other than Marylin Monroe, according to her long-time hairstylist Laura Polko. She made her appearance in a tiered Thom Browne gown, one of the biggest and heaviest ensembles of the night.

    Lily Gladstone

Oscar-nominated Native American actress Lily Gladstone made her Met Carpet debut yesterday evening with a pair of traditional, statement braids spilling gracefully down her back. A nod to her ancestry, Lily’s braids are a symbol of power. She accented the look with a silver hair clip representing the moon, another nod to her ancestors, and how in her words, they ‘come from the stars. Wearing Gabriela Hearst, Lily shone in a bedazzled, starry-eyed strapless black dress underneath a matching sheer cape with a train that dramatically pooled behind her.

    Amanda Seyfried

Perhaps one of the most notable transformations of the night, actress Amanda Seyfried stepped on the carpet with a fresh set of metallic silver locks, the perfect take on this year’s Garden of Time theme. Her hairstylist Renato Campora styled her locks down to the finest of details, carefully placing strands in old Hollywood, face-framing curls along her forehead, with a sleek bun in the back to finish. The silver Prada look was complete with a stunning gemstone headpiece, resembling leaves on a vine.

    Dua Lipa

Not ditching her fiery, crimson red locks just yet, Dua added a pop of colour to this year’s gala. Her hair itself had a natural wet look, tying into the garden theme quite nicely. The popstar wore an all-black feathered look wrapped in polka dot and floral lace, a gothic dream put together by Marc Jacobs and accessorised with diamond-encrusted Tiffany & Co. body chains and jewellery. We’d match Dua to our Deep Red shade.

    Kim Kardashian

The Ice Queen herself this isn’t the first time Kim has boasted icy blonde locks. It’s been known that Kim and personal hair stylist Chris Appleton semi-regularly bleach her hair, gradually making her blonder and blonder, a major change from her natural dark tresses. Boasting angelic white-blonde locks, she made her entrance on the Met steps in a waist-snatching Maison Margiela corset and gown and signature long waves. Looking at the back, you’ll find an unexpected, nonchalantly styled fishtail braid. Laidback and glamorous, this messy, four-strand plait is the perfect beach hair look for this summer.

    Sydney Sweeney

Almost unrecognisable, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney says goodbye to buoyant blonde, embracing her new alter ego in a full-fringed jet-black bob wig. Wearing a blue, Miu Miu off the shoulder flower-embroidered ball gown and long black gloves, Sydney looked absolutely breathtaking, wearing a black veil en route to the carpet to conceal the surprise.

    Kendall Jenner

Supermodel Kendall Jenner went for fairytale, waist-length locks with an ultra-long and curly hairstyle parted down the middle, which blended seamlessly with her beaded arm details. The slightly sheer, sparkly design is a vintage piece from Givenchy’s 1999 collection. The ensemble features a plunging neckline, lowcut hip and golden-brown trim with structured, statement shoulders and tassels.

    Nicki Minaj

You can always expect the unexpected with Nicki, and she definitely delivered on this year’s hair look. Approved by Barbz all over the world, Nicki rocked the carpet with a blunt, black bob with an arched bubble ponytail. Small floral clips and details were also woven into the hair, matching the dramatic 3D, metallic florals seen on her lowcut, yellow Mami mini dress.

    Gwendoline Christie

Straight out of the 1980s – or a horror film – (we can’t decide!), Met Gala co-chair and actress Gwendoline Christie took this hair-raising look to a whole new level with a bright orange Maison Margiela Couture gown by John Galliano with a voluminous sheer black opera coat with bold stripes. Bringing us award-worthy drama, Gwendoline’s frizzy, abstract blonde bob is truly gravity-defying, playing with volume in a Disney villain type of way.
