Yes, of course there’s a lot of misinformation too (and silly, cringe-worthy trends for days), but it’s impossible to deny that sometimes, just sometimes, there’s a few tips and tricks popping out of our FYP that are worth a try. Lately, the best of #hairtok (the hashtag used to promote anything related to hair on the social platform) seems to be all about hair care and bouncy hairstyles. Let’s see them together!

1. TikTok Hair Trends: The Bouncy Ponytail

This has been going around for a while, and it’s easy to see why: who doesn’t love a voluminous, fluffy ponytail? All you need to do to give more vitality and some extra oof to your ponytail is a twist. Literally. Who knew that it could be this easy? Well, some of these TikTok users have already mastered this skill, and their ponytails look absolutely killer. Back to school hairstyles have been everywhere as September approached, and one would expect to see them slowly fade away as we enter the spooky season. This is not the case at all, and it’s somewhat refreshing to see that jaw clips are still a thing. How cute are they? This lovely “school hairstyle” is so versatile it makes an awesome hairdo to wear at the beach or at the office. 4. TikTok Hair Trends: DIY Curtain Bangs

Since inflation has been striking hard, less and less people are brainlessly booking their appointment at the salon for something as simple as trimming your own bangs. But what about a brand new haircut? Well, TikTok thought of this too, releasing tutorials of any sort. Brad Mondo’s DIY bangs method has gone viral pretty quickly (after all, he is one of the funniest and best hair stylists out there), and although some of these homemade haircuts are a total fail, adjusting your bangs at home can be a huge success. Look at this!

5. TikTok Hair Trends: Frizz-Free With Dental Floss

Some of the #hairtok trends can seem a little crazy at first, and in some cases they can be quite disappointing to try at home. Looks like someone thought that taming flyaways and frizzy hair with dental floss would make sense, and to an extent it does. Some types of dental floss are covered in a waxy layer to prevent the thread from snapping. Using this type of floss on your hair smoothes the surface of your strands thanks to its coat of wax, working in the same way as hair oil, but in a quicker, more even way. Whilst this is a good solution to use in a pinch for whenever you need a quick fix for a photo for example, its effects seem to be very short-living and, in the long run, the tension and friction caused by dental floss running down your strands could do more harm than good. If you’re wearing human hair extensions, this trend is a no go. Period!

6. TikTok Hair Trends: Heatless Blowout

Together with Velcro rollers, curling ribbons and air-drying, heatless solutions for gorgeous, healthy hair are going viral everywhere. I don’t blame these creators at all - as long as you’re not going to sleep with wet hair. This trick for a heatless blowout works really well, and with the right precautions it could also work for those that wear tape-in hair extensions or nano-ring hair extensions. Make sure your hair is always at least 70% dry before trying these types of long-sitting hairdos.

7. TikTok Hair Trends: Glass Hair With Keratin Treatments

Glass hair went viral earlier this year, thanks to celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and her trusted stylist, hair wizard Chris Appleton. The glass hair trend wants perfectly smooth, silky and shiny tresses, usually parted in the middle and flowing in an even, blunt haircut. Many people have been resorting to hair dusting and keratin treatments to achieve this cuticle-perfect hair look that reflects the  light like a mirror. Whilst you can’t keratin treat Remy hair extensions as they’re already treated, a little bit of hair dusting goes a long way to keep your ends in order and prevent annoying, crinkly flyaways from showing up. Think about it: what does your hair go through every day, every week, every month? The occasional conditioner rinse gone wrong, hairspray, hair oil, dry shampoo for those washing days that just had to be rescheduled, pollution, sebum, sweat… There are a lot of factors that can make your scalp feel like it just needs a breather! A monthly or even fortnightly clarifying routine can be a real lifesaver. 9. TikTok Hair Trends: Heatless Curls With The Curling Ribbon

The curling ribbon is literally everywhere. I get bombed with ads about this silky hair accessory on any social media platform I use. I mean, I know I love hair care stuff but gosh darn, give me a break… However, the curling ribbon is, I have to admit, a genius heatless curling technique. Not only is it gentle to your tresses (a good curling ribbon is usually made of satin or anyways 100% silk for the high-end version), but it also delivers spectacular results. 10. TikTok Hair Trends: Thick Hair Problems

Those with thick, heavy hair sometimes want to get this over with and decide to trim, dust and cut their hair in a way that will result a little lighter on their hair. As this user says their ponytail was hurting for the weight of their hair, they started showing the world how they solved this problem in the comfort of their own home. This type of trimming, when done correctly, leaves you with a heavily layered haircut.
